(From a Letter from the St. Mary's Association)
The Association announces a brand New Project to help to defray the medical expenses of the poor fishermen children in South India, especially in Kanyakumari and Tuticorin counties.
The tragic plight and disaster caused by the Tsunami to the
Fishermen Community is heart wrenching. The men who are the sole breadwinners for their families have not fully recovered by the loss caused by this monstrous catastrophe. Many lost their lives and what are left now are their children and their wives. They lost their homes, boats, Catamarans and their fishing nets. Their lose looks like beyond recovery, because their children and wives are left with untold sufferings, helpless and hopeless, since fishing is the only work that brought sustenance to their lives.
While thinking of their miserable plight, we thought we could help them at least in some way to defray their medical bills, and bring some joy in sad stricken faces of their children. We could save many children from perishing by life threatening diseases, even though we are unable to help them to buy boats, and nets and to build homes for them. But we could at least help them to take care of their medical bills.
Hence we appeal to your generous hearts to help us that we may in turn help these children stricken with diseases. You financial support will brighten the future these children and will bring light and joy in their lives. We would like to thank you in advance.
