Puthenthurai is a coastal village situated at the southern part of India with a population of about 3200 people. The beneficiaries of this project are socially, economically, culturally and educationally disadvantaged fish workers and their families who are landless, living in thatched sheds as extended families. They are all fishermen and their livelihood is solely dependent on their daily earnings from the sea.
Project Description:
The Holy Rosary Church, built in 1901, collapsed in June of 2002. It is currently undergoing renovations while parishioners attend church in a thatched hut.
The work on the new church is approximately 80% done. Most of the labor and much of the money for the project has been donated by the local people. The church is seeking funds to finish the project.
