About Father Hermanagild Jayachandra

Fr. Hermanagild Jayachandra is the Pastor of St. Martin de Porres Church in Boulder, Colorado.

He was ordained in1968 in the Indian town of Kottar, located at the Southern tip of the sub-continent, close to the city of Nagercoil. He was initially an assistant pastor in three parishes and subsequently became the pastor at Kottilpadu, Melpuram, Packiapuram and Kolvel. These four parishes ranged in size from 1000 to 2000 families.

For the past seventeen years he has served as a parish priest in the Denver/Boulder area recently becoming a U.S. citizen. Father Herman still has many family and friends in India and maintains close ties to the Archdiocese there.

Father Herman began his commitment to serving the poor while still in India. Since 1973, he has worked to help support those in need - including such projects as providing eyeglasses for the poor, supporting a sewing circle for young orphan girls, food for the elderly, education for poor fisherman and helping to build schools.

Once he moved to the United States, Father Herman quickly realized that he could become a bridge between those here, in the US, hoping to help the poor, and those in India who so desperately need the help. His projects have steadily gained momentum and others have joined his cause, supporting his projects, sponsoring projects and helping to spread the word of the need and the opportunity that exists to fill it.
